    Annual Report 2022 | ICRC

In 2022, we stepped up our efforts to address the growing humanitarian needs generated by armed conflicts and other situations of violence around the world, particularly in communities also coping with the consequences of overlapping crises.

Through our neutral, impartial and independent approach to humanitarian work, we were able to reach communities inaccessible to others and to maintain our proximity to conflict-affected people, allowing us to engage closely with them and ensure that our programmes were adapted to their needs, accessible, and supportive of their capacities.

Across the globe, we delivered timely aid during emergencies and helped communities build their resilience to the effects of conflict, enabling millions of people to meet their most urgent needs, have access to clean water and life-saving health care, and bolster their food security.

Thousands of detainees received visits from ICRC delegates. We checked on their situation and provided support to improve their living conditions.

Our Central Tracing Agency, with our partners in the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement, enabled separated family members to restore contact with one another and searched for those missing in relation to armed conflict, migration or other reasons.

Complementing these activities, we sought to limit human suffering by promoting respect for international humanitarian law and other applicable norms, spreading awareness of basic humanitarian principles and raising issues of concern with influential parties at the domestic, regional and global levels.
