    Violence and discrimination in sport
    From around 9.45, plenary will discuss with Commissioner Ferreira how to counter violence and discrimination in sports. The debate follows allegations of sexual harassment on a Spanish player by the (since-resigned) President of the Spanish football federation during the trophy presentation for the FIFA Women’s Football World Cup in August.

    Ensuring a secure and sustainable supply of critical raw materials
    At noon, MEPs will adopt their negotiating position ahead of negotiations with EU member states on new measures to secure the supply of key materials such as lithium for batteries and silicon for semiconductors, and reduce EU dependence on imports.

    In brief

    Improving firefighters’ working conditions. Following some of the largest fires ever recorded in the EU, from around 10.45 MEPs will discuss firefighters’ working conditions, including compensation for overtime, appropriate equipment and health and safety issues.

    Segregation and discrimination of Roma children in education. In the afternoon, MEPs will quiz the commission on the segregation of Roma children in schools in the EU. Plenary will vote on a resolution in the 2-5 October session.

    Votes

    From 12.00, MEPs will vote, among others, on:

    • regulating prostitution in the EU;
    • the situation in Guatemala after the elections, the rule of law and judicial independence;
    • the case of Dr Gubad Ibadoghlu, imprisoned in Azerbaijan;
    • human rights situation in Bagladesh, notably the case of Odhikar;
    • opening of negotiations with the US on strengthening international supply chains of critical materials, and
    • the future of the European book sector.
