Following today’s decision by Parliament’s Conference of Presidents (President Metsola and political group leaders) to declare the hearings process closed, the European Parliament will hold its final votes on Wopke Hoekstra’s appointment as Commissioner for Climate Action and on Maroš Šefčovič’s new responsibilities as Executive Vice-President for the European Green Deal.
Both votes, one for each candidate, will be taken at around noon, by a simple majority and by secret ballot.
The decision of the Conference of Presidents came after the positive evaluation by the Committee on the Environment, Public Health and Food Safety of the public hearings of Mr Hoesktra (Netherlands) on 2 October and of Mr Šefčovič (Slovakia) on 3 October, and the written follow-up questions requested afterwards, subsequently confirmed by Parliament’s Conference of Committee Chairs.
The Conference of Presidents also decided to publish the evaluation letters drafted by the committee, which will be available on the hearing pages soon.
