    Looking ahead to the June 2024 European elections

    After the opening of the session, MEPs will debate their proposals for 6-9 June 2024 EP elections, including a system to elect the Commission President, as well as ways to increase turnout and enhance democratic processes. The vote will take place on Tuesday, followed by a press conference with the co-rapporteurs (tbc)

    Sakharov Prize 2023: discussion with laureates from Iran

    In the evening, MEPs in the Foreign Affairs and Development Committees and the Subcommittee on Human Rights will hold a discussion with Afsoon Najafi and Mersedeh Shahinka, representing the 2023 Sakharov Prize laureates – Jina Mahsa Amini and the Woman, Life, Freedom movement. The award ceremony will take place on Tuesday at 11.30.

    Reform of the Stability and Growth Pact

    In the evening, the Economic and Monetary Affairs Committee will adopt its position on the reform of the EU’s economic governance framework, including a regulation replacing the stability and growth pact, designed to ensure that EU countries pursue sound public finances.

    Breakfast directives: MEPs to review honey, fruit juice and jam labelling rules

    Parliament will debate in the evening its position for revised rules for more accurate labelling of a number of agri-food products such as honey, fruit juices and jams, to help consumers make informed and healthier choices. The vote will take place on Tuesday.

    In brief

    EU Mental Health Strategy. In an evening debate, MEPs are set to urge member states to prioritise and improve access to mental health services for vulnerable groups and to ensure that all EU citizens have access to quality and affordable mental health services. The vote will take place on Tuesday.

    Eliminating remaining barriers to online shopping in the EU. In the evening, MEPs will assess the EU’s rules on geo-blocking. They are expected to call on the Commission to eliminate existing barriers and revise the current framework by 2025, to also include audio-visual services.

    Tax policy in times of crisis. In the early evening, plenary will debate how to better use tax policy as a tool to facilitate redistribution, raise revenues and promote environmentally-friendly behaviour. The vote will take place on Tuesday.
