BEW Berliner Energie und Wärme AG Renews Partnership with Landis+Gyr for Heat Meter Supply

BEW Berliner Energie und Wärme AG Renews Partnership with Landis+Gyr for Heat Meter Supply

(IN BRIEF) BEW Berliner Energie und Wärme AG has renewed its partnership with Landis+Gyr for another four years, extending their 20-year collaboration. Landis+Gyr will supply ultrasonic heat meters, specifically the T550 (UH50) model, chosen through a Europe-wide tender. The T550 (UH50) meters feature dual communication modules and an exchangeable measuring insert, enhancing maintainability and cost-efficiency. This partnership supports BEW’s goals for accuracy in customer billing and aligns with Berlin’s environmental and energy policy objectives.

(PRESS RELEASE) NUREMBERG, 25-Jul-2024 — /EuropaWire/ — BEW Berliner Energie und Wärme AG, formerly Vattenfall Wärme Berlin AG and a leading district heating supplier in Germany, has renewed its long-standing partnership with Landis+Gyr. This collaboration, which has spanned over 20 years, will continue under a new supply contract for the next four years, extending until 2028.

Landis+Gyr, chosen through a Europe-wide tender focusing on technical and commercial criteria, will supply ultrasonic heat meters, specifically the T550 (UH50) model. BEW emphasized the importance of maintainability, durability, and quality assurance in their decision.

The T550 (UH50) meter features dual communication modules, providing flexible communication options for customers. Landis+Gyr had preemptively equipped devices with communication modules even before the 2021 German consumption recording regulation (FFVAV) was enforced, showcasing their forward-thinking approach.

Additionally, the T550 (UH50) as a QP 150 includes an exchangeable measuring insert, allowing for cost-effective and quick replacements while keeping the volume measuring element in the network. This innovation is particularly beneficial in urban areas like Berlin.

Theresa Matthes, Head of District Heating Network Operations at BEW, expressed satisfaction with the renewed partnership, highlighting the importance of measurement accuracy and stability for customer billing. She emphasized that Landis+Gyr’s heat meters will help BEW meet Berlin’s environmental and energy policy goals.

Johannes M. Koch, VP of Heat & Water Metering Solutions and Managing Director Germany at Landis+Gyr, praised the partnership as an example of sustainable cooperation and technological innovation in the energy sector.

BEW Berliner Energie und Wärme AG has been wholly owned by the state of Berlin since May 2, 2024. The company currently supplies the equivalent of around 1.4 million residential units in the capital reliably and conveniently with climate-friendly district heating. In addition, the company also offers locally generated district cooling and individual, decentralized energy solutions.

The aim is to completely phase out the use of coal by 2030 and to make heat generation largely climate-neutral from 2040.
