Fisker Ocean electric SUVs could be sold at $14,000 each, but to only a single buyer

These cars were originally valued at $70,000 but since then the developer Fisker has faced substantial challenges in financing its activities. Now, the company has petitioned a bankruptcy judge to authorize the sale of over 3,000 Ocean electric SUVs for approximately $14,000 per vehicle to a leasing company.

This move, if approved, would enable Fisker to sell 3,321 electric vehicles to New York-based American Lease for $46.25 million, according to a court filing on Tuesday.

The electric vehicle startup, which sought Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection last month, faced significant logistical challenges in selling its Ocean SUVs. Earlier this year, Fisker transitioned to a dealer-partner model after depleting substantial financial resources.

Originally, some versions of the Ocean SUV were priced around $70,000. As the company faced financial difficulties, it slashed the price of its most affordable variant to roughly $25,000 to generate capital and address debt obligations.

On May 30, two weeks prior to Fisker’s Chapter 11 filing, American Lease agreed to purchase 2,100 Ocean EVs. The offer was later increased to include all 3,321 available vehicles.

American Lease, which provides vehicles to rideshare drivers in and around New York City, supports the city’s mandate to transition its rideshare fleet to zero-emission or wheelchair-accessible vehicles by 2030.
