SGS Selected as Official Reviewer for SIX Swiss Exchange’s New Climate Equity Flag, Boosting Corporate Transparency in Sustainability Efforts

(IN BRIEF) SGS has been approved by SIX Swiss Exchange as one of only two sustainability experts to act as official reviewers for the new ‘1.5°C Climate Equity’ flag. This flag allows Swiss-listed companies to demonstrate their commitment to limiting global warming to 1.5°C by submitting an Emission Plan that SGS will evaluate. Successful companies will receive an SGS assessment report, published on their website, and the flag, which is valid for one year. This partnership highlights SGS’s expertise in sustainability assessment and its role in enhancing corporate transparency and investor confidence.

(PRESS RELEASE) GENEVA, 27-Aug-2024 — /EuropaWire/ — In a significant move towards enhancing climate transparency and accountability, SGS has been selected by SIX Swiss Exchange as one of only two approved sustainability reviewers for the newly introduced ‘1.5°C Climate Equity’ flag. This initiative is designed to enable Swiss-listed companies to visibly demonstrate their alignment with global climate goals, specifically the commitment to limit global warming to 1.5°C.

As an accredited reviewer, SGS will rigorously assess the emission reduction plans of companies applying for this voluntary flag. These companies will be required to submit detailed Emission Plans, which SGS’s sustainability experts will evaluate through a comprehensive forward-looking review. Upon successful validation, SGS will issue an assessment report that will be publicly accessible on the companies’ websites, enhancing transparency and investor confidence. The flag, once awarded, is valid for one year, with annual renewals contingent upon updated confirmation of compliance.

This partnership underscores SGS’s leadership in sustainability assessment and assurance, further solidifying its role in driving corporate responsibility in climate action. By leveraging its extensive expertise, SGS will help companies not only achieve recognition for their sustainability efforts but also build stronger reputations in the eyes of investors and the public.

Géraldine Picaud, CEO of SGS, commented:
“We are honored to collaborate with SIX Swiss Exchange in this crucial initiative. Our role as an independent reviewer will ensure that decarbonization goals are met with the highest standards of objectivity and rigor. This initiative is not just about recognizing sustainability efforts but also about empowering investors with the information they need to make informed decisions in the context of climate change.”

This partnership represents a pivotal step in advancing corporate responsibility and transparency in the fight against climate change, reflecting both SGS’s and SIX Swiss Exchange’s commitment to a sustainable future.
