Towards a Future of Trust: The Citizen Insights Summit 2025 in Brussels

On February 19, 2025, Brussels hosted the Citizen Insights Summit, a flagship event organized by ESOMAR, bringing together over 50 participants from diverse backgrounds, including the European Commission, Parliament, researchers, professors, students, journalists, financial business experts, and citizens. This event, held at the Thon Hotel, aimed to create global connections and partnerships to shape the future of research and data.

ESOMAR, representing more than 12,000 members and over 650 companies across more than 150 countries, is a leading network of knowledge resources and industry experts. Founded in 1947, the organization held its first congress in Amsterdam in 1948, with the mission of promoting high professional interest and technical standards in transparency and security.

The event was opened by the General Director of ESOMAR, followed by an opening address from a representative of the European Parliament. The gathering highlighted the importance of ethical strategies, idea exchange, and building bridges among the various stakeholders present.

A panel discussion led by experts in artificial intelligence (AI) explored the power of data and its impact on citizen priorities. Speakers emphasized the need to utilize data to shape effective communication while addressing issues of misinformation and fake news. Data transparency was identified as crucial for establishing a trustful dialogue with the public.

“AI must be designed to enhance, not replace, humans,” one panelist asserted, underscoring the necessity of secure, integrated platforms built on data integrity. Kim, representing the European Commission, also shared insights on education and social dialogue, reinforcing the idea that the voice of citizens must be heard and respected.

As an independent journalist and President of OISAT/WASAT, I greatly appreciated this high-level debate and the opportunity to meet influential figures engaged in AI and data research. Together, we can work towards maintaining public trust in an ever-evolving world.
