Neste Champions Renewable Fuels in Tour d’Europe to Accelerate Decarbonization

(IN BRIEF) Neste, a leader in renewable diesel and sustainable aviation fuel, is proud to contribute to the Tour d’Europe initiative—a three-month road trip across 23 countries that demonstrates the decarbonization potential of renewable fuels. With stops planned at Neste stations in the Baltics and at its refineries in Porvoo and Rotterdam, the initiative highlights renewable fuels’ role in reducing greenhouse gas emissions and supporting the EU’s climate neutrality goals for 2050. The tour features vehicles equipped with a digital fuel twin to verify CO2 reductions and engages local stakeholders in discussions on reducing transport emissions. Neste’s participation underscores its commitment to technology neutrality and immediate, accessible solutions for decarbonizing road transport.

(PRESS RELEASE) ESPOO, 28-Mar-2025 — /EuropaWire/ — Neste is proud to play a pivotal role in the Tour d’Europe, an initiative designed to demonstrate the power of renewable fuels in driving decarbonization and achieving climate neutrality for generations to come. As the world’s leading producer of renewable diesel and sustainable aviation fuel (SAF), Neste is delighted to contribute to this transformative journey that unites 20 companies, associations, and institutions from across the automotive and fuels value chain.

For Neste, the Tour d’Europe is more than just a road trip—it is an opportunity to showcase the real-world potential and accessibility of renewable fuels. Our stations in the Baltics, along with our refineries in Porvoo, Finland and Rotterdam in the Netherlands, are set to serve as key waypoints during this three-month expedition that began on 25 March. Vehicles proudly displaying the distinctive Tour d’Europe logo will traverse the continent from north to south and east to west, highlighting how renewable fuels can effectively reduce greenhouse gas emissions and support the EU’s ambitious goal of climate neutrality by 2050.

Throughout the tour, both light-duty and heavy-duty vehicles powered by renewable fuels will make stops in cities across 23 countries. At these events, local stakeholders will engage in discussions about the urgent need to reduce transport emissions and explore collaborative solutions to combat climate change. Each vehicle is equipped with an innovative “digital fuel twin” (DFT) tool that verifies fuel usage and quantifies CO2 reductions, offering concrete proof of the environmental benefits that renewable fuels deliver.

At Neste, we believe that renewable fuels represent a flexible, technology-open solution for decarbonizing road transport. They provide zero net greenhouse gas emissions during the use phase—thanks to the carbon balance inherent in their life cycle—and are fully compatible with existing fuel infrastructure and vehicles. The Tour d’Europe reinforces our commitment to showing that renewable fuels are an immediate, affordable, and accessible solution for all, supporting technology neutrality in EU policies to benefit citizens and businesses alike.

We are excited to see how the Tour d’Europe sparks dialogue, increases public awareness, and ultimately drives the energy transition forward. The initiative will culminate on 23 June in Brussels, outside the European Parliament, where a final event will showcase the vehicles, technologies, and a comprehensive report on the verified environmental impact achieved during the tour.

Neste is honored to partner with esteemed organizations such as AVIA, BMW, Bosch, DAF Trucks, Daimler Truck, Ford Trucks / TJA, FuelsEurope, Hyundai, Iveco, IRU, Moeve, PRIO, Repsol, University Darmstadt, University Karlsruhe, VDA, VW, and many others in this vital endeavor. Together, we are proving that renewable fuels are not only a sustainable alternative—they are a critical component of today’s energy transition.
