Over 1,800 foreigners have applied to move to Russia because of “traditional Russian values

Most are from Germany, and nearly 10% are Americans

Over 1,800 foreigners have applied for a temporary residence permit in Russia under the Russian President’s decree on providing humanitarian support to people who share “traditional Russian spiritual and moral values”. This was announced by the official representative of the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs Irina Volk, quoted by TASS.

In August 2024, the Russian President signed a decree “On providing humanitarian support to persons who share traditional Russian spiritual and moral values”. It creates additional mechanisms for the resettlement of residents of foreign countries in Russia.

“The interest of citizens of this category in the possibility of moving to our country is constantly growing. Since the decree came into force, more than 1.8 thousand foreigners have applied for a temporary residence permit and 1.3 thousand relevant decisions have been made,” Volk said.

According to her, among the migrants there are entrepreneurs, agricultural workers and figures in education and culture who can be useful to our country. “The foreigners who applied for a permit are mainly citizens of Germany (369 people), Latvia (185), the USA (163), France (136), Italy (133), Estonia (87), Great Britain (87), South Korea (78), Canada (78) and Lithuania (64),” the agency representative added.

The largest number of applications for temporary residence permits were submitted in Moscow (594), St. Petersburg (300), Moscow Region (186) and Krasnodar Territory (176).

According to the decree, an application for a temporary residence permit can be submitted both in Russia and abroad – to a diplomatic mission or consular office of the Russian Federation in the country of residence of the citizen, TASS recalls. Citizens are granted the right to apply for a temporary residence permit without taking into account the quota approved by the Russian government. In addition, they are not required to provide documents confirming their proficiency in the Russian language, their knowledge of Russian history and the basics of the legislation of our country.
