The administration told Congress that it had resumed its war against Tehran last week, as Trump fumed over stagnant peace talks and continued uncertainty over the Strait of Hormuz. The two sides have since traded heavy blows, and Trump reinstalled a blockade on Iranian ships in the waterway, a critical transit lane for some 20 percent of the world’s oil.
And even as the administration insists the door is still open for a diplomatic solution to the conflict, the president appears far from convinced.
“My whole life is deals. I don’t see it. I don’t see it with them,” he said at the NATO Summit this month in Turkey.
The White House referred POLITICO to CENTCOM’s statement in response to a request for comment.
