(PRESS RELEASE) OXFORD, 10-Dec-2024 — /EuropaWire/ — AmeySRM has achieved a significant milestone in environmental excellence by winning the prestigious International Green Apple Environment Award for its sustainable approach to the A533 Bridge Replacement Scheme in Cheshire. This £27 million project, delivered in partnership with Sir Robert McAlpine for National Highways, involved the construction of a 67-metre, two-span concrete bridge that provides a vital connection between Runcorn and Northwich, spanning the M56 motorway.

Selected from over 1,200 nominations worldwide, AmeySRM received the award during a ceremony at Kensington Palace, London, on 18 November. The award was presented by Helen Kitchen, representing Yealands Wines of New Zealand, the host of the 2024 Green World Environment Awards next spring.

As part of this accolade, AmeySRM has been named a Green World Ambassador, with their A533 Bridge project set to be featured in The Green Book, a globally respected guide on environmental best practices. This recognition will enable AmeySRM to inspire sustainable innovation on an international scale and encourage the adoption of eco-friendly infrastructure solutions.

Additionally, AmeySRM will represent the UK at the 2024 Green World Environment Awards in New Zealand, joining global leaders to share insights on advancing sustainability in engineering and infrastructure.

Stephen Knott, Strategic Highways Business Director at Amey, commented: “This recognition is a testament to our commitment to sustainability and engineering excellence. Winning this award highlights our dedication to delivering infrastructure that not only meets the needs of today but also safeguards the future.”

The A533 Bridge Replacement project achieved notable environmental milestones, including a reduction of 1,029.7 tons of CO2e, improved biodiversity, and enhanced waste recycling efficiency. These achievements were commended by the independent judging panel, who hailed the project as a benchmark for future sustainable infrastructure initiatives.
