Eurozone economic growth slows in first months of 2026

The eurozone economy grew less than expected in the first three months of 2026, official data published on Thursday showed.

The EU’s statistics agency said the 21-country eurozone grew by 0.1 per cent in the first quarter, compared with 0.2 per cent in the last three months of 2025.

The figure is lower than the 0.2 per cent predicted by Bloomberg economists and the 0.3 per cent forecast by FactSet analysts.

Eurozone inflation surged in April after the war in the Middle East caused energy prices to skyrocket, official data showed.

Consumer price rises accelerated to 3.0 per cent from 2.6 per cent in March, the EU’s statistics agency said, in line with predictions by analysts for Bloomberg and FactSet.
